Hello Vella Karman here, a homeschooled 11 year old. I am in 6th grade. I like to dance ballet, especially point, and I also write my own stories. I can't see what I am doing in ballet but I can feel the beauty of it, and I praise God with it. Maybe later I will post some of my stories, I want people to see my work but I am afraid they will think it's terrible and say I am awful at writing. But I still want your comments even if that's what you have to say, I'll try not to take it personally, I am looking for constrictive criticism so say what you really think.

Wow only two days, I really need to pack today. Last year I started packing weeks ahead, it is overwhelming when I think about how long and at the same time not very long ago that was. I remember it like it was just yesterday but at the same time I have grown so much sense then. I should better go pack.

Today Reed told us a really funny play on words joke that had to do with Islam and Buddhism. In Bible we read about more of Joseph’s life. He has now bought all of Egypt and everything else in Egypt for Pharaoh. And Jacob died. Tomorrow we are going to finish Genesis. Mom started to read extra Field guide, even though we read through next weeks yesterday.

In history we learned about old English, it is crazy confusing. It was nothing like now-a-days English. We stole a lot of words from other countries, why can’t we make up our own? I wouldn’t like living in a feudalistic society. We learned about Magyars. They were fast, and they used that to ride around stealing things and killing people. It was awful, and nobody could catch them. Until finally a king conquered them. People have very odd names and nicknames in the world. There was really a King named Louis La Fat, how embarrassing!!! History is pretty much impossible to pronounce name person started a war, conquered, over through, or fought against impossible to pronounce name person. The Seljuk people had a “Friday” mosk, isn’t that crazy.

We finished pretty early today too, and I am doing some of next weeks stuff because we are doing extra together stuff this week and extra alone stuff next week at Camp K and Camp S. I am doing this because I want to be free next week because this year I have a friend where we are staying!!! Only Three day left before we leave for camp K, I can’t wait but I will miss Mom and Dad too.

We read a poem about Paul Revere today. In Bible we read about Joseph revealing himself, and then Israel and Joseph’s brother came to Egypt.

Did you know that the vikings played chess? They did, it is supposed to be a civilized game. But they did, we saw a picture of one of their chess pieces. Some vikings lived in now-a-day Russia,  Greenland, and they lived in America before  the indians attached them. Leaf the lucky found North America way before Columbus even tried.

In science we learned about cool buildings in science. One was shaped like a wave, another looked like it was made of water, and one other one had levels that would spin around with the wind!!! Isn’t that crazy!!! We also learned about Pneumatics. The questions were okay.

Today we finished pretty early, next week we go to camp, this year we are’t going to camp D again, and Reed is going to a different camp than us. He is going to camp S and Adi and I are going to camp K. If you’re wondering right now, why in the world are they going to camp in the middle of spring? It is because our dad is going to be taking the pictures for the FamilyLife, love like you mean it marriage cruse, and mom is going as his helper, also because it is free and it would be weird if dad went by himself on a marriage cruse. So us kids get to stay for a week at camps. Only four days left before we leave for our camps!!! I haven’t even started packing yet!!!

In Bible we read about Joseph’s silver cup trick, but we haven’t gotten to the part where he reveals himself to them. In history we have been learning about England. More than half of history is wars in my opinion. Every single country has been invaded at least five times. England and France just joined. The English buried their Kings in ships, so “they could get to the afterlife.”

In science we learned more about sound waves and SONAR. Did you know that ultra-sound is the name for waves above 20,000 Hz, and that is what they use to see the babies in an ultra-sound. Electrons do relay races, they bump into each other passing their charge on down the line so that it moves. Today we were supposed to make our own batteries, but we don’t do the experiments from this book and we also already did it.

We read about pharaoh’s dreams, and Joseph was just set over the land of Egypt. Joseph just had Manasseh and Ephraim, and his brothers came to see him. Herod was a bad and power hungry ruler, he killed his own wife and sons because he thought they wanted to have his throne. An emperor once joked that it is safer to be Herod’s pig than his son.

The Norse people are attaching the Franks in history. They were sometimes called vikings, they’re boats had flat bottoms so that they could go right up to shore. We also read about Eric the Red, and Leaf the Lucky.

In science we learned about concave and convex lenses, did you know that our eyes can change between the two? Our eyes are cool, I wonder if contacts lens got the name from convex lenses.

Sky High

The Little rock police department just got a new sky high surveillance tower. They were using it to lower stolen car rates and to keep watch over large crowds during the holidays. They hope to use it for those things in the future as well. They say it was unmanned a lot over the holidays but hopefully that will change in the future. So watch out criminals, here they come, sky high.

Algiers is the capital of Algeria. 3,574,000 people live in there. Algiers means the islands. They have some very poor areas in Algiers.

In math I learned about how you can have zeros in your answer when you’re doing long division. It is really easy once you understand it. Although I barely got an A, even though out of twenty-seven questions with only twenty-two counting and I got two wrong.

We read more about Joseph in Bible today. We got to the part when he is in jail but not to when he interprets the servants dreams yet. We read poems about the theater, the circus, city lights, and one weird one about wanting to be a tool or part of a building or something like that.

Did you know that they called the Frankish empire the holy Roman empire, which really makes no sense at all because first of all; they weren’t holy, holy means set apart for God, and that’s what the Jews are, second of all; they aren’t roman, so I don’t know what to think about that. Charles The Great was a Emperor of the Frankish empire, I am going to call it what it actually was no matter what they called it. He tried to have a christian empire, which is good and all except for the fact that he forced everyone to do it, there is a reason God let Adam and Eve sin, He wanted to be loved but if people are forced to love Him then it is not actually loving Him because you are being forced to do it. That was an extremely long sentence that it seems as if it should be worded better but that is the only way I know how to word it.

The End of This Journal

We read about Joseph telling the cup bearer and bread maker the meaning of their dreams. We also read more about Charlemagne in history. I didn’t really think the stuff about Charlemagne was interesting. We read more poems today. They were about George Washington.

In science we learned about nuclear fusion. Two energy types smash together and fuse, then one of the neutrons falls out because it is an extra one. Fusion reactors make the conditions that are needed for this to happen and then it adsorbs the energy that is made when this happens, I may not be all sciency or anything but some of the stuff we learn is cool. We learned how concrete is made, did you know there are crystals in it? There are 10-15% cement, 60-75% sand and gravel 5-9% trapped air and 15-20% water.

Happy February! I can’t wait for ballet!! I worked on a report about Arkansas that I am doing today, I researched the trail of tears and some other things.

We read about Charlemagne in history. Forcing people to be Christians isn’t right, but at least he tried to make his kingdom a good place. We read about “The Wind,” and “The Hammer.” They fought and “The Hammer” won.

We read more awful poems, one about trees, and another one about the library, and one about the zoo, I sort of liked the one about the library, we also read one by AA Milne, who wrote Winnie the Pooh, he wrote the one about the zoo. That one had some verses that rhyme with pooh, he must have a thing about that.

In science we learned that Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen named x-rays, x-rays because he didn’t know much about them.

In Bible we read some of the prophecies about Jesus. I think that the Jews thought He would be a powerful ruler because it says He will judge righteously, and that He will strike down the wicked, also it says He will reign as king, and it says again that He will be the king.

Today is the last day of January, so happy January!!! We read poems about mailmen, songs, and ice cream trucks. There are too many poems in the world, I like my own but most of other peoples don’t make sense. We read about Joseph in Bible. We read about the fall of the Byzantine Empire in history. In science we learned about waves and wave lengths.
