Homeschool Journal 8/31/17

Today we went on a field trip to the library and our other house. We were going to meet dad at the other house and it didn’t work out. I got some craft books at the library! I also got a gingerbread house book that had a ton of really cool ways to decorate it! There was even a really cool log house type one.

In Bible we learned about the different types of Bible studies. There are word studies, topical studies, character studies and so on. Did you know that a devotional is different than a Bible study?

In Algebra 1 I finished my whole lesson in 34 minutes. It was about simple undoing in reverse order in inequalities. In Bible we read in The BBC Manual read about Bible study vs Bible devotionals and the types of studies and tools for studies. In the real Bible we read about Jesus driving the legion of demons into a herd of pigs. In history we read the whole history of New Netherlands and New Amsterdam until they both became New York and about the Dutch West India Company. I finished my writing assignment two days early today. My science required a sunny day and the remnants of a hurricane are coming here today so I had to wait. The friends we normally meet on Fridays we are meeting today. We have not done A Murder For Her Majesty or poems if we have any yet. I am done with everything else though. It is 11 am now. Yesterday since writing my journal I started On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness. Today I finished On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness and started The Grave Robbers of Genghis Khan. On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness is the first book in The Wingfeather Saga. The Grave Robbers of Genghis Khan is the seventh and last book written in The Children of the Lamp series. After writing this I will have lunch and clean my shoes because yesterday the dogs went to the restroom in the house.

In Algebra 1 I was halfway done with the second to last question when history started which is pretty good for starting at the beginning of the lecture. In The BBC Manual it gave us practical tips for reading the Bible every day. In the real Bible we read Mark’s version of when Jesus spoke in a lot of parables then explained them to his disciples and when he calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee. In history we learned about the Pilgrims and had an overview of all North American settlers. The rest of my Current Event articles did not exist past the front page and I had to choose new ones and read them. I got to 13% done with my course on Lynda.com today. In science I had to give a lot of oxygen to a fire. We read one poem by William Wordsworth about ice skating. It was bad. I have finished everything today for school. Yesterday I finished Dragonwatch, A Giant Problem and The Viper’s Nest and started How to Steal a Dragon’s Sword. Today I finished How to Steal a Dragon’s Sword. After writing this I will read some more. We did not follow our schedule for Wednesday that we made because Adi’s gymnastics is during when we usually read history and Bible. We did half of it at the right time extra quickly so Adi and Mom could leave. I almost finished school on time today. It is 3:42 pm and we are supposed to be done at 3:30 pm.

Today Adi went to gymnastics, she can cartwheel now!!! It is really cool! And after only two classes! I took a video of her doing it, and we will have a ton of fun showing it to her when she is older.

In Bible we learned that if you want to make a habit of reading the Bible you must either choose no Bible, no breakfast, or no Bible, no bed. It is also good to cautiously paraphrase it so that you can remember it, it usually helps people remember things better if they teach it to someone else, or put it in their own words.

I learned about tone in English. You should never use the word that your tone is. Tone is the emotion that it is written in. In writing class I learned that your intro sets the tone for any essay you write. So if your tone is set in your intro, the rest of the paragraph makes more sense.

Yesterday we started drawing and I am better than I thought at drawing recognizable things! Today we went on a field trip to the library. It was fun, I like going to the library on Tuesdays! Reed and Adi don’t think I am writing my journal fast enough, so they are threatening to write it for me and post it on the blog saying that I will do all sorts of things for them. Siblings, you just gotta love em.’

We made hurricane in a bottle today. It was really really cool! It is ironic that we are doing it right now, I am not on good terms with Harvey! BE PRAYING FOR TEXAS, AND HUSTON A TON!!! We are going to try and get a science fair going with other homeschoolers, it is going to be so much fun!!!

In history we read about people who pretended to be loyal to other people when they were really loyal to the other side! I think to many more of the bad peoples stories get told in history than the good.

I had my first quiz in math today, it went fine. I think I got a B at the least. Math isn’t really hard yet.

Petitioning for Police on TV?

The little rock police department has a shortage on police. And a rise on crime, at the same time. According to officials, they are not directly related, though they are a bit inconvenient. They want about 80 new trainees to fill the positions, 12 of those already being certified police officers. To get the word out they plan to have a social-network wide call to duty. Including advertisements  on Facebook, YouTube, and other social medias. The call to duty will also extend to television. It has been publicized on the front page of The Arkansas Democrat Gazette along with the famous “Harvey picture.” So watch out bad guys, the police are upping their workforce.

Today all I had was together stuff, English and science because I thought I needed to do today yesterday and was almost done when I found I didn’t need to. I might do extra later. I had finished all of English before 9 o’clock am and part of science. I finished science within 30 minutes of finishing together stuff (Bible, History and Read Aloud). It is 10:15 am now. We started Mark two days ago and today we read Chapter 3. In The BBC Manual we learned about reading the bible devotedly. In history we learned about the first shogun of Japan and briefly the rest of them through when they shut-off Japan. We read A Murder For Her Majesty early. We had no poems today. My experiment in Science didn’t work right and where I was supposed to get two different temperatures I got the same. I learned about humidity. Relative humidity is how much of the percentage of water is holding that it can at that temperature. Yesterday I read The Fairy Swarm and started Dragonwatch. I have not read any today. The Fairy Swarm is the sixth and last book of The Imaginary Veterinary series. We will go to the library later but it will be cut short by Mom meeting her friend and having to go to the store. After writing this I will need to clean my room. I have to have my Current Events be at least two of international concern each week but I don’t think I have two.

Homeschool Journal 8/28/17

I am ahead because we are doing Friday today. I already did all but one thing for Friday so I am doing Monday’s work. Because of that I am going to get to take one day off of everything except for history and Bible this week.

In math I “learned” how to add and subtract in my head, now that they have “taught” me how to add and subtract. Wow, crazy huh?

In history everybody seemed to care so much about the northwest passage and India’s spices. Because everybody was trying to find it and become rich with their silks. I understand the spices because salt kept meat from going bad and gave it flavor, but they still lost a lot of people looking for it.

Homeschool Journal 8/28/17

In Bible we read about the paralytic who was let down through the roof to be healed. We had no extra Bible book because we are doing Friday’s work today because we took Adi’s birthday off of school on Thursday. In history we learned about Hideyoshi and other Japanese warlords. It is Monday. We read A Murder For Her Majesty early again and had no poems. I did exactly one lesson of Algebra 1 except I had a test. I read another two chapters of The King’s Fifth. Over the weekend I finished The Keys to the Demon Prison, The Five Fakirs of Faizabad and How to Break a Dragon’s Heart. The Five Fakirs of Faizabad is Book 6 in The Children of the Lamp. How to Break a Dragon’s Heart is Book 8 in How to Train Your Dragon. I have not finished LA from Friday’s work or any of today’s work after writing this I will do that. It is currently 1:09 pm. Cub Scouts starts tonight and Boy Scouts are helping on opening night and since I am a Den Chief I will help year-round. There is a parent’s meeting for Boy Scouts tonight that is right after Cub Scouts and I will have to stay. I had a test today in science about atoms, molecules and concentration. So far all my science has been very basic although I have done three experiments and 3-4 test like things. First for today’s work I will have Algebra 1, then Current Events, Alone Bible, Spanish, Korean, English and Science.
