Starting August 20th North and South Koreans start reuniting with family members. In a several day event held at Diamond Mountain resort in North Korea they will be allowed to speak with and embrace long absent family members. Most of the Southern particiapants are older, meeting with relatives they haven’t seen since the war. Lee Soo-nam, 76, will meet with his brother this week. Lee Soo-nam last saw his brother, now 86 with a wife and 50 year old son, when Lee was eight and his brother was 18, running from North Korean soldiers at the begining of the war. Lee thought him dead, and he is so happy his brother is alive. Many particapants believe this might be the last time they see relatives before they die.

Journal Week 3
by Vwala •
This week I went to speech and debate camp Monday through Wednesday so I won’t have much to say.
8/13/18
We worked on speech today, I got really nervous which was weird because I spoke in front of about 50 people a couple weeks ago, but 15 made me nervous? I guess because they were there to learn about speech and debate and were older.
8/14/18
Today we started debate. The debate practice games were a ton of fun. I think I did ok, and it was less nerve racking than speech because everyone else was bad too.
8/15/18
Today we did an actual debate round and it was amazing! We did great and last night I did some research on the topic, so I really knew it, and they let me use it in the round, while everyone else used the provided material, so they didn’t have a defence. It was awesome!!!!!
8/16/18
Today I got back to regular school. It was a lot more relaxed because I wasn’t leaving before 8 and I didn’t need to worry about lunch. My work wasn’t incredibly hard because I kept up with math, doing it ahead last week, and doing half a lesson after speech and debate. I also got ahead in Bible and other stuff and mom cut out some other things.
8/17/18
Today I finished up most of my school. I made a fancy lunch for Adi and me, and played with magnets. Mom and I did a lot of reading on our stuff, and I read a ton of Going Solo By Ronald Dahl. I haven’t had it all week so I couldn’t read it until today. It is better than most of his other books, but I wouldn’t really suggest it. I’m not a big fan of his books, if you read the actual books of James and the Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory they’re pretty wacky and not very good. Also Mary Poppins the book is actually horrible and nothing like the movie, Julie Andrews portrays a good character, while in the book Mary Poppins is harsh and incredibly vain.
Turks Promise Boycott
by Vwala •
On Tuesday Erdogan said Turkey will bycott IPhones. His given reasons were that the US commanded Turkey to release an American Pastor. Wednesday Turkey said they will add tariffs on rice, vehicle, alcohol, coal and cosmetic imports. Trump made them pay double to import steel and aluminum earlier this month. Erdogan suggested Turks buy phones from different brands such as Samsung. He and several other officials have been seen using IPhones.
Orion the Hunter
by Vwala •
Orion was a skilled hunter. One day Orion was bragging to his friend, “I’m the best hunter in the world! I bet I could kill all the animals on earth! What do you think of that!” Gaia, the earth god, heard him and got angry. Gaia sent a giant scorpion to kill Orion. Orion was hunting in the forest with his dog, Sirus, when he ran into the scorpion. He started fighting the scorpion, but it was too strong. Orion ran away. Eventually he came to a river, he got in the river and stared swimming. The scorpion followed him on land, because scorpions can’t swim. The river emptied into the ocean, where Orion stayed, waiting for the scorpion to stop waiting for him at the shore. Sirus, seeing his master could not swim much longer, went to shore and fought the scorpion, but the scorpion killed him.
Apollo, the sun god, didn’t like Orion, because he had gotten mad at the sun for setting while he was hunting. Apollo was sitting with his sister, Artemis, who was friends with Orion, on a rock above the ocean when he saw Orion swim out.
“Look! There is a thief and a murderer in the ocean!” Apollo cried. “See that black spot? Shoot it with your bow before it is too late!” Artemis shot the spot, but then went to find who it was. Seeing Orion she begged the gods to restore him to life. They would not. So Artemis put him and Sirus in the sky so they would never be forgotten.
Week 2: Doodle Doo
by Vwala •
No, I didn’t learn about chickens in science. But this week was fun. Although not as fun as last week, and I kept on going to doctor appointments. You’ll see the trend.
8/6/18
Today I had an orthodontist appointment. Afterwards we went to the library and the bank. So I got behind and didn’t catch up.
In math I learned aobut Algebra Notation, which was new. It got a little complicated, but it was mostly good. It also got tall, with fractions on top of fractions. But I liked using a dot for multiplactation!
8/7/18
I had a dentist appiontment today. Yes, while my teeth still hurt from yesterday. It wasn’t too bad, but Adi got her first cavity! It is sad, she gets it filled in September. I can’t believe I didn’t tell you yesterday! I’m getting my braces off in eight weeks! I can’t wait!
Today I rewrote the Greek Myth of Orion the hunter. It was pretty easy gut fun. I tryed a new POV, Narator. It was a really easy way to do it quickly, and mad it a lot simpler because I don’t know the characters well enough to do a good POV for any of them.
I did art today, and it was fun! I will attach pictures of today’s and last weeks at the end of the post. I have been drawing things in my room lately.
8/8/18
It’s the eighth day of the eighth month of two-thousand and eighteen, and also my eighth day of school!
We went with mom to a doctor appointment, (Can’t get away from ’em) but I’m still on time! (I brought school.) So yay!
In science I finished early so I started working on my own robot. I forgot to telll you I made a robot arm for extra credit yesterday! Well, today I made the base, then I’m gonna add the arm and a ttach a motor. After that I’ll work on a sensor. I’m excited!
I edited my story about Orion the hunter. It was fun, and didn’t take too long! I liked making it go from ok to great! A little bit of word choice and sentence structure goes a loong way!
Exchange student coming tomorrow!!! YAY!!
8/9/18
Today I did another science experiment. I pretty much made slime wil borax this time. It was supposed to be like Frubber, a fake robot skin I learnded about. But it was pretty boring.
I didn’t have Enlish today because I finished it yesterday. Current Events was a little hard. I got an A+ in math. I’m doing speed and distance problems now. No trains yet!
8/10/18
Today I barely had any school. There’s not much to do on Fridays. But I did have a ton of fun finishing up the newpaper! I added a comic, and some interviews! I will post pics of it. It looks really clean! I had a math test today. I did pretty good. Next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I am going to be at speech and debate camp. I’m not looking forward to it! We are getting to know David, which is fun! We had a picnic lunch at the park and then went to the pool.

I Can Charge Anything more than You…

The US is adding another levy to China imports. It is 25% on 279 product lines starting in two weeks. The US is doing it for the second time this month even though American businesses are protesting. China said they will do a levy of the same proportion to us, which would be $16 billion. The US might increase that total soon, because they are looking into adding more product lines.
Exchange Student
by Vwala •
We are getting an exchange student! I am incredibly excited!! We learned a month or so ago, and David comes to live with us Aug. 9th. (Tomorrow!) Here is what I thought at first.
I’m too excited to think!
David gets here tomorrow, his dad will also stay with us for a month, then return to China. David is 15, turning 16 in December. He likes science and math, and he will go to school at the Private Christian School our church meets at.
David was supposed to get here more than six hours ago, and we haven’t heard from them. We heard that a flight from China to LA was delayed eleven hours, (eleven hours, WOW!) but we don’t know if they were going on that plane then transfering.
They called, they were tired so they got a hotel room and slept. They will get here sometime tonight.
David has been here 11 days, and it’s awesome! He’s been doing school since last Thursday, but it has been uneventful. He was supposed to have a tennis tournament today, but he didn’t want to miss English.

NASA is preparing to launch a team of nine into space. Scheduled to leave April of 2019, they will dock at the International Space Station for several days to a couple weeks. This will be one of NASA’s first commercial flights. The crew is made up of a mix of newbies and veterans of space travel. They will undergo massive training for the next nine months, some of them preparing for their first tip to space. There is talk about plans for a longer mission in the next decade.
Earth Quakes, the Ground Shakes
by Vwala •
On Sunday a 6.9 earthquake hit the island of Lombok, Indonesia, killing 91 people. Indonesia suffers many earthquakes, including a different one in the Lombok Area last week. Many houses crumbled, falling houses and buildings being the main cause of deaths. Both earthquakes struck at 6:46 Western Indonesian time. They are currently clearing rubble.

I am done with school! Hence the title, so I am pretty much done with journals until next year. I know you’ll be so sad to be free. It can’t be helped. (Just kidding, enjoy your vacations!) Mark your calander folks, July 30th is my first day of school. Whoo Hoo!
