Journal/Vacation account 9/12/16

I am going to tell you about our week and a day long vacation in this journal. I got up at about 6:00 am and got dressed, ate breakfast, and did last minute packing/packing the stuff that I just realized that I had forgotten. We left the house around 7:00 and hit the road. It didn’t seem too long, even though we drove 12 hours that day. We listened to 2 audio books and played a ton of car games. We listened to 6 audio books total on this trip. I read some and got motion sick. That night we stayed with some friends, they had a fire pit, a zip line and more than one play house in their backyard. they also had a new puppy and a home theater, I went zip lining for the first time, and zip lining in the dark too!!!!!!!!!! We also had s-mores and played games. I got to sleep with my friend whom I hadn’t seen in about 2 years, it was a ton of fun!!! We went to lamplighter publishing and had a tour led by the president we even watched some books get made, I folded 100 boxes, and the president even signed 2 books for us and personally picked a book for each of us kids. Dad was thinking about maybe working at lamplighter so we went to their company picnics and made friends, they are awesome people who are serving God through their work and we love what they do but God doesn’t want us there right now. We also went and saw Niagara Falls, the Statue of Liberty, the site of the Twin towers, and our cousins we hadn’t seen in 3 years. At Niagara Falls we got ice cream, and  we were going to go to the crown at the Statue of Liberty, but it was broken so we saw it from the New Jersey side. We got to camp out on the floor in the basement with our cousins, and we got there way before dinner so we got to spend a bit more time with them than we might have. And we got to meet the newest edition to the family of 11, she is not quite 1 year yet. On the 4th or 5th day of driving it got a bit boring, I am glad we are back home now.

Homeschool Journal 9/13/16

In Bible we learned about where Jesus blesses little children. In History we learned about ancient China and its first two dynasties the Shang and Zou. We read six poems about food and manners. In Science we learned about the fossil record and that it does not support evolution.

We went to the orthodontists to put back some wires which popped loose.

Mt. Morris Trip

We went on a trip to Mt. Morris, New York, for Dad’s interview with Lamplighter. On the first day we drove 11 hours but it seemed like 12 because we switched time zones. We went from Little Rock, AR, to Indianapolis, IN. In Indianapolis we stopped at the Griffin’s where I did a lot of sword fighting with Andrew. The second day we drove 10 hours. We went to Buffalo, NY. We stopped at some of my mom’s relatives’s house. They had a very competitive granddaughter. And it does not help when she does not know the rules of the game she wants to play and when you are a little bit better at the game.

The next day we left at noon to go to Niagara Falls. Our passports are expired so we did not get to go to Canada. But we got to see Horseshoe Falls anyway. After that we drove to Mt. Morris and got there around 5. Mr. Hamby, the president of Lamplighter came to the house we were staying and brought food for dinner at 6:20 it was supposed to be 6 but he is late a lot. After dinner about half of the other Lamplighter staff that is in Mt. Morris (Only eight staff members live there) came to meet Dad. The next morning Dad went to a meeting and then we all got a tour of Lamplighter headquarters. After that Dad went back to working and we went to the library and walked around town.

For lunch we went and bought stuff at a grocery store. After lunch Mr. Hamby took our family to a nearby state park. That night we went to a picnic at that same state park and I played some Frisbee. We only got to eat after dark. The next day we went to a nearby town to check out their library and stores. We went to a Wegmans and a Walmart. We did not have time to see the library because Mom and Dad went to lunch with Mr. Hamby but he did not want us kids along so he had the Lamplighter staff babysit us and we got to fold boxes. When Mom and Dad came back they let us pick out a book to get as a souvenir and so we would have things to do on the way home. I got The Alabaster Box. It did not turn out to be so good.

That night we went to another picnic in the same place and I did not eat and had a headache. The next morning Dad decided to turn down the job (which had been offered before we came) down. We left that morning, Thursday, so we drove to the Statue of Liberty and on before we stopped for the night. Friday we drove a supposed 4 hour drive but it too 6 with traffic to our cousin’s house they have 9 kids. We spent the rest of the day with them, spent the night and left mid morning. We debated random things played chess and kickball and had pillow fights. That night, Saturday, we drove to Nashville, TN. We ate at Olive Garden and slept in at our hotel. We got home the next day after a five hour drive.

In our week and a day long trip we only ate at three restaurants and stopped at two hotels.

Lamplighter is a company that reprints old books with Christian worldviews, sometimes they make them into audio dramas. They sell their books online. Where we were staying there were some Lamplighter books and I was able to read one while we were there.

Today we have been busy, yesterday I only did spelling and math because we were getting ready for our latest trip. We are leaving for New York, tomorrow. We have been packing and getting the things we need for the trip almost all week. We are going to go see Niagara Falls, and maybe the Statue Of Liberty. It’s going to be so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turkey’s Problem

The U.S is working on finishing up a program, which is going to resettle 10,000 immigrants mostly from Syria. They are coming up to Greece and Turkey from Syria and Libya. Some countries have been refusing to take in Muslim immigrants, so Turkey is being flooded with immigrants. Turkey is now backing the rebellion against the Syrian President.

Homeschool Journal 9/2/16

In History we learned about India. No one knows how the Indus Valley civilization ended. The Indus River flooded every year. The Amorites were able to take over Sumer. We read eight poems about random things. In Science we learned about bioplastic, hydroponics, supermarket technology and dry shampoo. Bioplastic is biodegradable.hydroponics is growing plants in nutrient rich water so you don’t need soil. Dry shampoo sticks to dirt so you can comb it off because it is big enough with the shampoo stuck too it. In our experiment we timed how long it took our four liquids to slide down some wax paper taped to a jar at an angle. I had to write a peace treaty with at least five articles but I could not think of one so Mom let me write a constitution instead. I also had to write a poem, I tested out my theory that if yo close your eyes, open a dictionary and point to a random word it will make just as much sense as a regular poem. It worked!

All I did yesterday was Math and Spelling because we were packing for a trip to New York. In Math I did more on negatives.
