We went on a trip to Mt. Morris, New York, for Dad’s interview with Lamplighter. On the first day we drove 11 hours but it seemed like 12 because we switched time zones. We went from Little Rock, AR, to Indianapolis, IN. In Indianapolis we stopped at the Griffin’s where I did a lot of sword fighting with Andrew. The second day we drove 10 hours. We went to Buffalo, NY. We stopped at some of my mom’s relatives’s house. They had a very competitive granddaughter. And it does not help when she does not know the rules of the game she wants to play and when you are a little bit better at the game.
The next day we left at noon to go to Niagara Falls. Our passports are expired so we did not get to go to Canada. But we got to see Horseshoe Falls anyway. After that we drove to Mt. Morris and got there around 5. Mr. Hamby, the president of Lamplighter came to the house we were staying and brought food for dinner at 6:20 it was supposed to be 6 but he is late a lot. After dinner about half of the other Lamplighter staff that is in Mt. Morris (Only eight staff members live there) came to meet Dad. The next morning Dad went to a meeting and then we all got a tour of Lamplighter headquarters. After that Dad went back to working and we went to the library and walked around town.
For lunch we went and bought stuff at a grocery store. After lunch Mr. Hamby took our family to a nearby state park. That night we went to a picnic at that same state park and I played some Frisbee. We only got to eat after dark. The next day we went to a nearby town to check out their library and stores. We went to a Wegmans and a Walmart. We did not have time to see the library because Mom and Dad went to lunch with Mr. Hamby but he did not want us kids along so he had the Lamplighter staff babysit us and we got to fold boxes. When Mom and Dad came back they let us pick out a book to get as a souvenir and so we would have things to do on the way home. I got The Alabaster Box. It did not turn out to be so good.
That night we went to another picnic in the same place and I did not eat and had a headache. The next morning Dad decided to turn down the job (which had been offered before we came) down. We left that morning, Thursday, so we drove to the Statue of Liberty and on before we stopped for the night. Friday we drove a supposed 4 hour drive but it too 6 with traffic to our cousin’s house they have 9 kids. We spent the rest of the day with them, spent the night and left mid morning. We debated random things played chess and kickball and had pillow fights. That night, Saturday, we drove to Nashville, TN. We ate at Olive Garden and slept in at our hotel. We got home the next day after a five hour drive.
In our week and a day long trip we only ate at three restaurants and stopped at two hotels.
Lamplighter is a company that reprints old books with Christian worldviews, sometimes they make them into audio dramas. They sell their books online. Where we were staying there were some Lamplighter books and I was able to read one while we were there.
