homeschool journal 8/28/15

Today we were suppost to go to the musiem of discovery, but because Reed was feeling sick we didn’t get to go and instead we decided to go on sunday and postpone a puppet show that I had planed and it is probubly going to be very werth it because dad gets to go with us, and I still get to do the puppet show later that day.

In school today I didn’t have much to do, I did a bit of reading (about indians) and it was fun but took a long time. It was mostly about they’re homes and how it’s changed from tippis to log houses.

In current events I had to write my report and I am going to type that up after I finish this journal. My report was about china changing how much the yuan (they’re currency) is worth.

Today I also did a bit of china, I had to quote a chinise person and explain what I thought they meant by that quote.

PRE-SHOCKER EARTHQUAKE HITS HAYWARD FAULT

On Tuesday, July 21 a magnitude 4.0 earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay Area. Scientists say that there is a 42% chance of at least a magnitude 7.2 earthquake to hit in the next 30 years. The area has history for earthquakes. A big one usually happens every 90-140 years. This year its been 147.

An earthquake over magnitude 6.0 can be dangerous if near a city. Although the most likely thing to happen to any given person is a shortage of supplies. The best you can do to be prepared for an earthquake (because they are one of the hardest to predict weather predicaments) is stock up on bottled water and dried food, not be afraid and know if you’re on a fault line.

POPE GIVES FORWARD OPINION OF MODERN CAPITALISM

In his speech in Ecuador on July 11 Pope Francis accuses world leaders of “cowardice” for not defending the world from modern capitalism. He also demands from the public to “rise up against modern colonialism.” Also (a turn of subject) he apologises to the Native Americans “for many grave sins by the Catholic Church” done to them “in the name of God.” Which was taken well. Many people were shocked by his strong language against greed which, according to him “the devil’s dung.” But a productive speech overall.
