BRAZIL NATIONAL MUSEUM MOSTLY CONSUMED IN FIRE

A fire at Brazil’s National Museum in Rio de Jenero destroyed up to 90% of the main wing’s contents, including Luzia, the oldest skull found in the Western Hemisphere. A couple hundred protesters, when government officials refused to let them in, tried to break down the metal gates at the entrance. The building has been a fire hazard for a while, they had just gotten funds to update the fire system when the fire occured.

Korean Mass Games Make Comeback

North Korea returned the mass games after five years. The focus was on economy rather than military although there were still weapon displays and army marching. There was no mention of their nuclear bombs, which Trump and American specialists seem to be taking as a good sign. The mass games will have displays of acrobatics, weaponry, and marching military predicted to last for a month. Foregners are buying tickets for up to $800 dollars.

Week 6, Just for Kicks

9/3/18

Whoopie! Labor Monday! Today we hung out. I did a bit of school, but most of it I’ll do tomorrow. I had an awesome Labor day weekend!

Today I started writing a mystery. For a while now I’ve wanted to write one, and I got a few ideas this morning, so I wrote them down for “when I write that mystery.” But later when I was talking to mom I just blurted out that I was going to write one and sat down to start it.

9/4/18

I had more school today than normal because of yesterday. But after the long weekend I was on task so I finished early anyway. Today I finished my favorite history book. It was about Archemedes, one of my favorite historical figures.

I compared The Thief and Going Solo, two adventure books I read for school. It’s probably part of my pre-writing for an english assignment. (Turns out, oddly enough, it was.)

9/5/18

Today Adi was sick. So I took a lot of breaks to play with her. I did finish a lot of school though.I started a new book in history. It’s about Ida Scudder, who was a missionary to Africa. I like it.

I made the outline for my comparison contrast essay today. It took a long time, but I got some cool new ideas. I think it’ll turn out well, I start writing tomorrow! Yay!

9/6/18

Today I volunteered at Call Mall. It was fun. I also went with mom on errands so I am just finnishing school. (7:22 PM) I want to be done!

I am enjoying Algebra because I don’t actually have to do the math. Just the formulas, I use a calculator for the actual math part. I don’t get why everybody’s afraid of Algebra. It’s fun.

9/7/18

I didn’t finish all of my school today because today I went to our rental house and tried to do school there. Usually it’s easier to do school there because with everybody working it’s more quiet. But today we met dad and I also couldn’t do some things because I didn’t have wi-fi, but I finished most of my school. In math negatives seriously made me cry. (When you have a plus sign you should add not subtract!) I don’t mind -X, as long as I remember it’s negative, but the rest is so confusing!

Today in science my experiment was to make a robot hand. There were instructions, and I made it of cardboard, straws, tape and string. We ran out of tape, (At our rental house. Yes, I DID bring the tape with me, but I didn’t check to see if it was full.) so we got some at the store. It really works, I picked up some things with it, and it’s super cool! (I came up with a new model to try that’s going to be awesome and make it even easier to pick stuff up!) I will post a pic of it!

Canada Optimistic About Trade Talks

Canada is still open to trade, although according to the Foreign Minister, Chrystia Freeland, they have some “issues for me [Freeland] and Ambassador Lighthizer to take some decisions[.]” Trump wanted to make an agreement by Wednesday, so that it could go through the ninety-day reworking process before next year. Trump wants it finished before Mexico’s leadership positions get passed on. The new leader might have different ideas about trade, making them go through the entire process again, possibly with different results. Trump also stated that he will leave the World Trade Organization “if they don’t shape up[.]”

Fire Crisps Historical Artifacts

On Sunday a ravaging fire destroyed the Brazil National Museum. Officials were worr that many artifacts are destroyed or damaged. Monday people gathered at the gates demanded to see the damage, the main building getting a direct hit. The museum is 200-years old, and holds many Brazilian artifacts. There has been no public release of the damage.

Week 5, Horay, Labor Day

8/27/18

Today Adi went to a friend’s house. So it’s been quitet. my ankle is swollen right now from a bug bite. I don’t know what it was.

Today in scienc i learned about grocery devices, dry shampoo and artificial retina implants. They use glasses to take the picture and then send a crude image to their brain through the optical nerve. It’s pretty cool and their vision improves over time too!

8/28/18

In art I drew picture of inventions I’d like to make. I made a carnival game, a vending machine that doesn’t need electricity, and a sophisticated water wheel.

Today I read a section in 2 Chronicles that was interesting. It sounded like a nursery rhyme. It was like the one where the dog chased the cat who chased the mouse ect… It all starts in Jack’s house I think. I was talking about Solomon building the temple. One worker made the pillars, the bowls on top of the pillars, ect. It really did sound similar!

8/29/18

Today wasn’t my best day. I still ahve homework. (9:00 PM) Too much boring school! I almost got an A+ in math. I learned MORE about conic section in history. I read how to write a resume in electives.

8/30/18

Today I got a late start because tomorrow I have a writing group and I needed to finish stuff for it. I read about Archimede’s claw in history. It was cool! I would’ve liked meeting him. It’s crazy how ahead of his time he was!

8/31/18

Today I had an eye doctor appointment, but turns out I didn’t need one so I just got trial two-week contacts. We also went to Kroger and got milk because Kroger is right next to our eye doctor. I had my writing group and we also went to Walmart so I didn’t get much school done.

My writing group is more of a critique group. We send out a story to everyone a week beforehand and we go through eachothers work, pointing out grammar things, problems, and suggest ideas. We’re basically their fresh pair of eyes. It was fun! I submited Red Stips and White Stars, the historical fiction sci-fi I wrote for school a couple weeks ago.

SHOOTING IN JACKSONVILLE KILLS 2 PLUS SHOOTER

A shooting at the NFL Madden 2019 gaming tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, killed two (plus the killer) and injured nine. The shooter was identified as David Katz, who was the 2017 winner and had been eliminated this year. The second shooting recently, it was blamed by city government officials on youth gangs.
