I did some extra yesterday, like I wrote a poem I was supposed to be taking notes for, but I got carried away and wrote it already. Here it is;

Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman

was a slave

but she kept on hummin’

she didn’t like to behave

she ran away from her husband

and then she gave

freedom to all from the clubman

so all could live on a ave.

Yay for Harriet Tubman

In History we learned about the Middle Kingdom of Egypt how the Hykos took over it and how the Egyptians adopted their weapons and drove them out. In the Middle Kingdom Egypt took over Nubia but hundreds of years later they made their own dynasty and took over Egypt. We also reviewed the Chinese and learned about Southern Africa. The book said Egypt and Southern Africa developed very differently but other than the religion they seemed the same basically. We read seven poems mostly about birthdays. Two of them were named “The Fairies”. The first was about little men in green clothes who scare people away from the forest because they can magically place thorns in people’s beds and stuff. The next was about a little girl became queen of the fairies at night and they sat on moonbeams and took the stars out of skies. They were both very weird but I liked the first one better. Our experiment for Science was dropping our different liquids except canola oil into canola oil and observing how they mixed. We were going to go look down from a five-story building and run a football field to get a feel for how tall and long Noah’s Ark was but Mom did not know where to go.

Today we went on a field trip and mom surprised us by picking up dad and we had a picnic, it was awesome and we also went to the library and the store. It was really fun, I really enjoyed lunch with dad, it was the best surprise ever because dad left early for a men’s Bible study and we didn’t see him at all this morning.

Science was crazy as always sense we started this section on evolution. We were learning about this school district that wouldn’t let a teacher teach both sides of evolution or even extra about it because they were worried that if they knew too much about it they would see how ridiculous it is. They even fired the teacher. What is the world coming to???

In History we learned about the tribes that lived in the Sahara before it became a desert and how they moved south when it started becoming one. We read four poems about housekeeping and sickness. In Science we looked at the fossil record more. During Vocabulary Vine I was learning about the root word bio and made a new word for alien: biotel.

Scientist found millions fossils of soft-bodied invertebrate and of embryo and that proves that small and soft-tissued can be fossilized. In one spot in Wyoming there was man who built his house of dinosaur bones because that was the plentiful building materials in the area.

Today we went on a field trip to the orthodontist and the library. We had to go to the orthodontist because I had a wire that popped out and Reed had two! The library was short but fun, and I got 8 books. I had extra school today because I didn’t finish all of yesterdays.

In math they taught me how to multiply and what multiplying is, it was a bit boring. I had 1 1/2 of a lesson today. But it went pretty fast.

Journal/Vacation account 9/12/16

I am going to tell you about our week and a day long vacation in this journal. I got up at about 6:00 am and got dressed, ate breakfast, and did last minute packing/packing the stuff that I just realized that I had forgotten. We left the house around 7:00 and hit the road. It didn’t seem too long, even though we drove 12 hours that day. We listened to 2 audio books and played a ton of car games. We listened to 6 audio books total on this trip. I read some and got motion sick. That night we stayed with some friends, they had a fire pit, a zip line and more than one play house in their backyard. they also had a new puppy and a home theater, I went zip lining for the first time, and zip lining in the dark too!!!!!!!!!! We also had s-mores and played games. I got to sleep with my friend whom I hadn’t seen in about 2 years, it was a ton of fun!!! We went to lamplighter publishing and had a tour led by the president we even watched some books get made, I folded 100 boxes, and the president even signed 2 books for us and personally picked a book for each of us kids. Dad was thinking about maybe working at lamplighter so we went to their company picnics and made friends, they are awesome people who are serving God through their work and we love what they do but God doesn’t want us there right now. We also went and saw Niagara Falls, the Statue of Liberty, the site of the Twin towers, and our cousins we hadn’t seen in 3 years. At Niagara Falls we got ice cream, and  we were going to go to the crown at the Statue of Liberty, but it was broken so we saw it from the New Jersey side. We got to camp out on the floor in the basement with our cousins, and we got there way before dinner so we got to spend a bit more time with them than we might have. And we got to meet the newest edition to the family of 11, she is not quite 1 year yet. On the 4th or 5th day of driving it got a bit boring, I am glad we are back home now.

In Bible we learned about where Jesus blesses little children. In History we learned about ancient China and its first two dynasties the Shang and Zou. We read six poems about food and manners. In Science we learned about the fossil record and that it does not support evolution.

We went to the orthodontists to put back some wires which popped loose.

Mt. Morris Trip

We went on a trip to Mt. Morris, New York, for Dad’s interview with Lamplighter. On the first day we drove 11 hours but it seemed like 12 because we switched time zones. We went from Little Rock, AR, to Indianapolis, IN. In Indianapolis we stopped at the Griffin’s where I did a lot of sword fighting with Andrew. The second day we drove 10 hours. We went to Buffalo, NY. We stopped at some of my mom’s relatives’s house. They had a very competitive granddaughter. And it does not help when she does not know the rules of the game she wants to play and when you are a little bit better at the game.

The next day we left at noon to go to Niagara Falls. Our passports are expired so we did not get to go to Canada. But we got to see Horseshoe Falls anyway. After that we drove to Mt. Morris and got there around 5. Mr. Hamby, the president of Lamplighter came to the house we were staying and brought food for dinner at 6:20 it was supposed to be 6 but he is late a lot. After dinner about half of the other Lamplighter staff that is in Mt. Morris (Only eight staff members live there) came to meet Dad. The next morning Dad went to a meeting and then we all got a tour of Lamplighter headquarters. After that Dad went back to working and we went to the library and walked around town.

For lunch we went and bought stuff at a grocery store. After lunch Mr. Hamby took our family to a nearby state park. That night we went to a picnic at that same state park and I played some Frisbee. We only got to eat after dark. The next day we went to a nearby town to check out their library and stores. We went to a Wegmans and a Walmart. We did not have time to see the library because Mom and Dad went to lunch with Mr. Hamby but he did not want us kids along so he had the Lamplighter staff babysit us and we got to fold boxes. When Mom and Dad came back they let us pick out a book to get as a souvenir and so we would have things to do on the way home. I got The Alabaster Box. It did not turn out to be so good.

That night we went to another picnic in the same place and I did not eat and had a headache. The next morning Dad decided to turn down the job (which had been offered before we came) down. We left that morning, Thursday, so we drove to the Statue of Liberty and on before we stopped for the night. Friday we drove a supposed 4 hour drive but it too 6 with traffic to our cousin’s house they have 9 kids. We spent the rest of the day with them, spent the night and left mid morning. We debated random things played chess and kickball and had pillow fights. That night, Saturday, we drove to Nashville, TN. We ate at Olive Garden and slept in at our hotel. We got home the next day after a five hour drive.

In our week and a day long trip we only ate at three restaurants and stopped at two hotels.

Lamplighter is a company that reprints old books with Christian worldviews, sometimes they make them into audio dramas. They sell their books online. Where we were staying there were some Lamplighter books and I was able to read one while we were there.

In Bible we read about Jesus with Elijah and Moses. In The Children’s Bible Field Guide we learned about creation and the flood. In The Story of the World we learned about the Chinese. We read four poems about brothers and grandmas. We started a new video The Icons of Evolution. In Math I learned about subtracting negatives.
