Hello Vella Karman here, a homeschooled 11 year old. I am in 6th grade. I like to dance ballet, especially point, and I also write my own stories. I can't see what I am doing in ballet but I can feel the beauty of it, and I praise God with it. Maybe later I will post some of my stories, I want people to see my work but I am afraid they will think it's terrible and say I am awful at writing. But I still want your comments even if that's what you have to say, I'll try not to take it personally, I am looking for constrictive criticism so say what you really think.

“Extreme Hair”

In St. Johns, Fla., a boy was sent home from school on picture day. Eight-year-old Luca was sent home because of his hairstyle. School rules ban “extreme hairstyles.” Luca was wearing a suit with a tie, featuring blue hair. His mom, Dana Sinno said Luca “wanted a bold look for picture day.” His picture wasn’t taken.

Aviators Honored

Several aviators were honored by being “inducted into the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame.” (Arkansas Democrat Gazette) On Nov. 9, 2017 Harold Johnson, William Y. Smith, and Zane Anderson were ceremonially inducted, starting with a reception, followed by the actual induction. “Proceeds from the event  fund scholarships for students enrolled in the aviation degree programs at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia and Ozarka College in Melbourne.” (Arkansas Democrat Gazette) “Inductees into the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Game are chosen by the society board of directors because each of the inductees has made significant contributions to the development of aviation either in the state or the nation” said Richard Holbert, the runner of Central Flying Service, and who helped to establish the honor. Johnson, the co-pilot of a plane when it was hijacked in 1972, helped to establish a museum as a salute to World War II pilots. Smith taught at West Point after the loss of his right foot in a combat mission in the Korean War, and eventually retired as a four-star general. Anderson was at the head of civil helicopter operation in Arkansas, flying Chpper 7, Arkansas first electronic news gathering helicopter. They are truly honored.

ISIS Goes Caboom!

Anti-ISIS forces have finally captured Raqqa. Raqqa is a Syrian stronghold used by the Islamic State militant group. US backed forces captured it, reporting the victory Tuesday, October 17. This is a momentous victory for Anti-ISIS forces after four months of working towards it. Afterwards, troops celebrated in the streets, parading about in the ruins on random vehicles in the 90% of the city that they seized. But ISIS, forseeing the takeover left unexploded bombs in the city. So there might be some complications.

Wall of Water?

The plans for a north Little Rock plaza include a water wall, jetted fountains, oxbow lake-shaped berms, an audiovisual screen wall, a “backyard” and even a front porch! The 50ft long “interactive” water wall is a freestanding light display that takes this plaza “to another level.” The oxbow lake-shaped berms are designed after our very own Arkansas River, adding a historical sense to the modern area. The “backyard” provides some “green space” for picnics, with plenty of space for kids to romp around while their parents take a leisurely stroll. The front porch, complete with porch swings is a delightful place for sitting in the shade and socializing. Overall the plaza is a great addition to north little rock with the water wall as the main attraction.

Health Care? Or No Health Care?

Trump hasn’t made up his mind whether to give money to health care agencies to help with the cost of making them have lower rates for lower class people or not. All the parties involved claim he is on their side. Trump said “I won’t do anything to enrich the insurance companies because right now the insurance companies are being enriched. They’ve been enriched by Obamacare like nothing anybody has ever seen before.” Trump also wrote on twitter that, “I am supportive of Lamar as a person & also of the process, but I can never support bailing out ins co’s who have made a fortune w/ O’Care.” So at the moment it looks like everything is up in the air as far as health care support goes.

NAFTA Predicament

NAFTA talks continue on in 2018. Canada seems convinced that the US will leave NAFTA. The negotiators seem to not be agreeing, but Freeland’s opinion is that an agreement can be found. Businesses like the Retail Industry Group don’t seem happy with the prospects, but are hanging on. With everybody wanting something or another in the trade agreement NAFTA seems to be in a bit of a predicament.

In Bible we read about Pentacost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples. I forgot what Pentacost was and I was going to ask mom what it was to see if there was a hidden meaning behind the Holy Spirit coming then. But when she told me I laughed so hard at myself. Ohh well, it was a good thought, it just didn’t turn out too well.

We read a poem by Edwaard Lear. He was one of the youngest of 21 children!!! He was lonely as an adult. Probably because he was used to so many siblings! His poems are lonely too.

We read about Sual becoming Paul in Bible. He barely escaped from people who tried to kill him several times. I am glad that God can change people so much, or else a lot of people wouldn’t be saved! I didn’t realize that Paul stayed about two years in the place where he got back his sight before they persacuted him, that explains how he had people to help him get out in a basket so soon!

We learned more about Napoleon in History. Today he won all of Austria’s land in Italy. I personally do not remember that Austria had any land in Italy. They probably won it in another war. We read about Waterloo too, the Battle of Waterloo is very famous.

Today we started watching our neighbor’s chickens. She has four hens and she asked us to watch them until Sunday. We get to keep the eggs that they lay during that time. I like the chickens, I am slightly afraid of them, but then again when I first met our cat, Lava I was afraid of him too. (And he is a ‘fraidy-cat)

In history we learned about South America becoming free. And then getting recaptured by the Spanish. And then getting it’s freedom. There are no more ups and downs, sorry. We learned about Simon Bolivar, he is who they named Bolivia after. They are spelled very differently, nevermind, that doesn’t matter very much. Bolivar wanted South America to be run like the US. Although he accomplished much in his lifetime, sadly, his dream was never a reality.

Today we stopped early to go to a thing at about 4:30. We fed the chickens today. They are loud. I am sad that we only have two days left. I hurt my back on Wednesday. It still hurts today. I didn’t get very much school done.

Today was a long day. I did two spellings. (Which took almost an hour) I did a math lesson. (Which took longer than an hour) I found that two of my school books were in Reed’s locker. (I can read again now!) I also learned more about the outbreak of blue death in London. (Our read aloud) I did a lot of Bible memory, and heard more about climbing in Sweden. I also read a lot about weird and cool machines. Including a boat that is supposed to sink, (it is for studying purposes) a taxi that has no driver (it runs about 20 ft. above pedestrian level) and a plane where you have to work to stay conscious.

Today I tried to finish up yesterdays school but I ended up going to the store with mom and then youth group and so on. In Bible we learned that Jesus has overcome the world, but He has also made the world. So I don’t know if that really means much, well I guess it does mean that He still has power. It’s not like He lost all his power long ago and now He’s just hanging around, unable to do anything. Luckily for us He’s not like that. Or we would be in huge trouble.

Sarah Sanders’s Struggles Prepare Her to be Sent to the White House

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Mike Huckabee’s daughter is Trump’s Press Secretary. She helped her presidential candidate dad, and their fail helped prepared her for her current job. Sanders liked Trump and his family and she thought he might actually win. When Trump offered her a job, how could she say no? She began in politics at ten, helping her dad with his campaign for Arkansas governor. She enjoyed putting out the signs. When her dad hired Dick Morris, a campaign consultant she was allowed to listen in, and she learned a lot. She liked the strategy sessions more than the rest. She continued helping her dad, then she went to The Governor’s Mansion, a high school for politics. She also went to Central High. For collage she chose Ouachita baptist University. Sanders tried very hard to help her father to make it as a presidential candidate in 2008. In 2010 Sarah married Bryan Sanders. Sanders worked on John Boozman’s campaign and he said afterwards “I wouldn’t be here without Sarah’s master work.” Then she signed on as Tim Pawlenty’s senior political adviser. In the end he dropped out after getting third in the 2011 Iowa Straw Poll. But later he said “I just think the world of her [Sarah]” Right before the inauguration Sean Spicer, Trump’s Press Secretary then, asked Sanders if she would be his principal deputy. She said yes. Trump ended up not liking Spicer’s way of doing the job, but he was happy with how Sanders was handling it. In July Trump promoted her. Huckabee, her dad, said “There are very few jobs where a person is on the high wire any more so than White House press secretary.” And Boozman said her job as press secretary is “unimaginably hard.” So even though it’s hard, Sanders was prepared for the job because of her upbringing in politics, and her dad’s loss was just the beginning for her politic journey.
