DRONES CARRYING EXPLOSIVES APPARENTLY ATTACK VENEZUELAN PRESIDENT MADURO
by Reed Karman •
The claimed assassination attempt of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has caused the arrest of six “terrorists”. Two drones carrying several pounds of explosives supposedly were flown toward the president while he was giving a speech to the military. Soldiers present were able to “knock one of them off it’s course electronically.” The other crashed into an apartment building for some reason and started a fire.
Footage shows soldiers reacting but never the drones themselves, leading some to believe it was a hoax to gain support through sympathy. Maduro outright blames Columbian President Juan Manuel, who denies it.
INDONESIAN EARTHQUAKE MEASURES AT 7.0; 91 DEAD
by Reed Karman •
On Sunday, August 5, and magnitude 7.0 (on the Richter Scale) hit the Indonesian tourist island of Lombok, also damaging buildings on the island of Bali. Both islands are located on the Ring of Fire, and area in the Pacific of increased volcanic and seismic activity. The death count is currently at 91 and expected to rise.
A tsunami warning was originally issued but revoked. The would-be “tsunami” ended up 6 inches high. The aftershock of the quake was magnitude 5.6. These came one week after an earthquake in the same location.

Mom thought we were on a different day yesterday so she did a week of most subjects. All we had today were poems, some history, and Read-Aloud (which we’re behind on anyway). We read a poem about there not being a road in the woods anymore and some weird ones by William Butler Yeats (which rhymes with hates, strangely). In history we learned about “Hitler’s Rise to Power.” He was born in Austria but considered himself German. He also thought Jews were evil because during World War 1 he saw some Germans not support the war. He decided that foreigners must be spreading unpatrioticness, especially Jews. We also learned about 1930’s politics in Spain.

In Bible we read Esther 4 without the rest of the book and Job chapters 1, 38, and 40 also without the rest of the book. In History we learned about the Great Depression. Our books did not tell us this but they used to call depressions “panics” or the like. They came up with “depression” during the Great Depression as a gentler term. We also overviewed fascism. Wall Street was named for the wall that was built along it to protect Dutch settlers (back when New York was still Dutch) from Native Americans and Englishmen.

Mom sprained her back so we didn’t do together stuff again. I studied magnetism in science and how to multiply and divide imaginary numbers in Algebra 2.

Mom was sick and we didn’t do together stuff today and I have to publish a newspaper based on 1917 Russia. I spent most of the day on that.

by Reed Karman •
September 2017 lost 33,000 jobs in the US, the first drop in totals since 2010. Hurricanes that were recent at the time, such as Harvey and Irma, were blamed but most experts say the economy will recover easily.

In Bible Neamiah went back to Jerusalem to build the walls again. In History we learned about Mussolini. In Math I learned about imaginary numbers.

In Bible we started Neamiah. We also read a poem in Rudyard Kipling’s section. In Math I learned about more radical equations and in Science I learned about the electroweak force.
