Homeschool Journal 10/11/16

We read four poems today about Christmas and play time. In History we started the Classic Age. In Science we talked more about birds, dinosaurs and the Archeopteryx. Today we went to our orthodontics appointments and made our mouths hurt more but I got out of rubber bands.

Ostriches have claws.

 

Homeschool Journal 10/10/16

In Science we learned about the evolution of birds and the Archeopteryx. The three “best” proofs of evolution is ape to man, land mammal to whale and dinosaur to bird. We learned about what people think of the last one today. We read five poems about Christmas. One was from the Bible and another was by Martin Luther and was made into the song Away in a Manger. In History we learned about the art, architecture, science and technology of the ancient world.

Homeschool Journal 10/7/16

In History we learned about the Myceneans and the Persians. The Myceneans were a group of people groups named after the most important of the people groups. Supercomputers have 131,000 microchips and is two million times faster than a laptop. Went to the Chiropractor and the scout shop.

Homeschool Journal 10/6/16

We started school late today. We did our together stuff backwards from poems to The Children’s Bible Field Guide. We read four more poems about Chirstmas. In History we learned about the rise of the Persians and Cyrus the Great. If he was such a fair person why did he steal the throne from his grandfather?

Homeschool Journal 10/5/16

Today in History we learned about Homer and read the story of the Cyclops from the Iliad. Iliad was one of my spelling words today so I can spell it. We three read poems about Christmas. In Science we learned more about whales. The one that supposedly first had a fluke actually they did not find the tail bone and rest of the skeleton did not have the right vertebrae to have a fluke. A random fact I found today is what wind speeds define different wind types:

4-31 mph=breeze

32-63=gale

64-73=storm

74 and higher=hurricane

Today we learned about how the barbarians who took over Greece became “civilized”. we learned about the Greek alphabet and the Olympics. We read six poems about fall and fog. We read about an alligator that scientists called a “walking whale” in Science.

Homeschool Journal 10/3/16

We learned about the Mycenaean who took over Crete today. They were the first to use chariots and war horses. Homer was a Mycenaean because they were a Greek tribe. We read six poems mostly about school subjects like math and geography. We had to read The Trojan War. In Science we learned about the fossil record of whales. They have more variety of fossils of ancient whales than other things.

In the time between Joseph inviting his family to Egypt and the Exodus the Hyksus had already taken over Egypt and been driven out. I am is Yahweh in Hebrew.

Homeschool Journal 9/30/16

The Phoenicians used the Amarix snail for the dye they are named for “Purple Men”. The Babylonians were taken over by the Kassites before the Assyrians took over Babylon. Babylonians in the second greatness of their city tried to tell the future through the insides of dead animals. We read 11 poems about random things. In Science we read about Pet Cams, convergence, HUD and E-voting.

NEW LIMITS FOR POLICE TAKE-HOME VEHICLES

The Little Rock Police Department is taking another look at their take-home vehicle plan. 75% of the cars are taken out of the city and some are taken dozens of miles away. This defeats the purpose of being able to have a ready to respond on-duty and off-duty officer at any time.
