A Place to Belong

This is a short story about a teen girl who feels she doesn’t belong and the place she feels she might.

She sat with her headphones in. A typical teen. Not if you looked closely. Her thoughtful expression was turned to the screen as simply a place to rest her eyes upon, her melodious Christian music, and her thoughts were far from typical. There were several unusual parts of her surroundings we must mention. She sat in one row of four van benches, surrounded by other teens and country music. Most of the teens sat unbuckled in the moving van while the driver controlled the music and texted.

This was unusual for her due to reasons we do not have time or space to expound upon. The girl was using the headphones to block out the noise of non-Christian music. She had never expected a mission trip to be the place where she was exposed to such. She had also supposed a group of Christians to be the ones following seatbelt laws. She didn’t fit in here. Once, she had supposed she must; for if not of the world, we ought to be of another as Christians, right? Her assumption was incorrect, where she was sitting at the least. She did not fit in there. They were on their phones consistently, laughed at things she didn’t, had no problem with breaking rules, and acted more immature than she had imagined. They didn’t seem to care what others thought of them, as a group they acted upon (in her opinion) base instincts, but the next moment they cared to the utmost. This pack of animals teased and tortured her while she continued to smile and socialize, judge and hold herself aloof. They seemed to regard her in the light of a no-nonsense “saint” at the end of the trip. She was neither, but they never knew her.

She sat with her headphones in as she typed on a laptop. Perhaps more similar to a typical teen. If you looked closely, you would see she was writing comments and interacting with other young Christian writers, the headphones dangling from her ears playing Narnia movie soundtracks. I belong here, I fit in. She thought and smiled.

The End

Homeschool Journal 9/14/17

I wrote a journal for this day. But it has apparently been erased! I don’t think it will be fair if I have to write it again!!! So here is some of what I remember writing. (I added in/took out some things.)

Today I have a fever, a small sore throat, and a cold. I still did school. It was a Fridays work anyway.

Science took forever! I had to read about nine pages! They were mostly pictures but there was some small print about copywrite that was very boring and seems to take forever if you would rather be doing something else.

Homeschool Journal 9/13/17

Today I am better in the throat but still sore, and I am congested. I went on a field trip to watch Adi’s gymnastics. It was ok. We didn’t really do school today. I finished a math lesson and that is pretty much it. I played with Adi. I am going to youth group now. It is a ton of fun.

Homeschool Journal 9/12/17

Yesterday we didn’t finish school. Today we are sick. I have a sore throat and had a fever and might still have one. I did some math but that was pretty much it. Math was very hard.

Homeschool Journal 9/11/17

Today we had dentist appointments almost all morning and orthodontist appointments in the afternoon. It was pretty hectic. I didn’t get much school done at all, but tomorrow I am doing Fridays work so I can easily just do it, I hope. Math will present a bit of a problem, two lessons in one day? That’s just torture! But so would having to do it on a weekend, and who knows if it would get done otherwise? Other than God of course.

We read about Palm Sunday and Jesus and the fig tree. Jesus cursed the fig tree. Cursing is wrong, right. Reed said that maybe He was using it as a lesson, but did He have to curse it? I think it must have been Him admonishing the tree.

Homeschool Journal 9/8/17

Today we went on a field trip. We went to a church with a really cool playground with tubes and everything where we played with some little kids. Our moms talked while we played. It was pretty fun. I didn’t need to do spanish or science today. I didn’t finish all the work I had to do either.

Math was okish. I had to listen to him explain how to divide. It was not very good because I don’t have all of my multiplacation table memorized so I can’t do short division as easily.

Harvey Ruins

On Sunday, the third of September many people in Huston went back to their homes. A majority of those people are sorting through what to throw away, and what to put out to dry. Officers are going to continue doing door to door searches until they have covered everything that they need to. Churches met, some in their parking lots. They are opening businesses and playing ball games. They are trying to make everything go on as normal as possible while they are picking up the pieces. Several fires happened at a chemical site that got waterlogged and the authorities are warning people to be careful as they are cleaning their houses and to try not to have exposed skin. They are trying to lower the water in overflowing dams. Life is continuing on in Huston.

Homeschool Journal 9/7/17

Yesterday we started a new read aloud and it is sort of good but mostly I don’t think I will like it because the title has ghost in it. It is really scary and I totally will wish we aren’t reading this book soon. It was creepy.

Math was horrible and took forever. I got sent to my room until I could calm down. I was crying. Just let me get it wrong for once. I wish I could go back and not make all the typos ect, and not be so upset by the ones that I can’t get and then it is an obvious thing that I just forgot.

In English I am learning about character sketches. It is supposed to really develop your characters. It will really add depth to my writing if I can get the hang of it. But that’s only if I can get the hang of it. And if I practice it a lot. Well, this probably isn’t helping my writing. There are two many short sentences. I must stop having short sentences. Maybe if I use more commas? Or if I look through and see which things I really need to say. Ok, I am going to stop using as short sentences. If I can help it.

Homeschool Journal 9/6/17

In Bible we read about the less commonly told story of Jesus feeding a crowd. They had seven loafs of bread and picked up seven baskets after they fed the 400. The 400 hadn’t eaten for almost 3 days!!! That is one long sermon! We read about what to look for when you are doing different studies of the Bible so that you can get the most out of it.

Persia was conquered many times. It is amazing how many words we have for conquer, overthrown, invade, defeat, beat, vanquish, overcome, trounce, ect ect ect… It happens so much we need to have a million definitions for it that I haven’t even heard of half of them. It would be so hard to be a king or queen and not know who of your family is going to be treacherous and who you can trust, finding out you made the wrong decision later and regretting it or making the right one and feeling so betrayed. I am so glad I am not a queen!!!

Budget, what’s it?

Trump plans on completely changing the budget. Including an infrastructure bill and tax overhaul.  He plans on putting more into the defenses and weapons. But true to his campaign promise he hasn’t touched medicare or Social security so it has been said that he is keeping his campaign promises. Some people say he has done more than most Presidents have in their entire terms in the past couple of months but others have said that he has wasted it completely. Whatever one it is, big changes are afoot.
