New Books By Vella Karman

Don’t you just love new books? The smell, the feel, a story just waiting to be read, whatever your favorite part, (though I hope its not the taste) new books are a favorite among young and old.

Lucy was walking down Main St. for the first time when she saw it, a bookstore! Since Mum had said she could explore, that meant she could go in, right? Looking towards where she had seen Mum and Tracy last, she scanned the crowds. Finding them in the bustle, she caught Mum’s eye. As Mum winked and pointed at the bookstore, Lucy grinned. She nodded, Mum knew her so well! Lucy opened the door and stepped into one of the magical places it seemed God had made just for people like her. She was greeted by the familiar smell of new books, shiny new covers covered the walls, at least a thousand of them, just waiting to be read! She picked up the nearest one and stuck her nose inside. Such fresh, fine, soft pages she thought, fingering a few. She admired the book, a copy of “To Kill a Mockingbird” nice and new, with a beautiful, smooth cover.

I believe that everybody should get the feel the sensation of walking into a bookstore, and hearing all the books almost calling your name, “Read me!” “No, read me first!” “Me, me, me!” So if you still can’t smell that brand-new book smell, keep on sniffing!

Homeschool Journal 8/18/17 Day 5 busy as a bee hive

Last day already! I have officially finished my first week of school!!! Yay! Today is our half day of school so it is only 10:06! I think that 7th is going to be a great year! I have already learned something is almost every subject! I have also started some extra credit! I am doing a unit study and possibly an study of how long it takes to mail something in the US.

I would not want to have been a queen in history, they can’t trust their family and won’t help their family because of the possibility of treason, they are fearing for their lives all the time, and often get held captive/something horrible happens to them. I think there might be a little bit of tension between the Catholics and the Protestants.

Homeschool Journal 8/17/17 Day 4 more to go

Some of you may ask “what are there four more of?” and “did I miss something?” The answer to these questions, in no particular order are “No, and there are four more years until I will be starting my last year of school.”

In English I wrote my first (most likely of many) essays. They gave me more direction on what they wanted, and how they wanted it to be done.

In math, they taught me how to add. Seriously this is seventh grade math, people. Well that’s that for math.

We started a new book titled, “But Don’t All Religions Lead to God?” The simple answer to this question is “No!!!!!!!!!!” And that is just what the book said. We also had an interesting discussion due to this book about Protestant v.s. some Catholic thing.

Did you know the Dutch have had only one dynasty!!! That’s a first! The dikes are in the Netherlands, Netherland means “far-away,” so people think that the Netherlands were far away when they named it! Did you know that tulips used to cost about as much as a large house!!!!!

BOOM! -Ottis Amber (Week 1 Day 3, Whoopie!)

“Boom, boom boom!” You’ll be hearing this noise soon if Trump’s “tough talk” continues. Officials say that conflict is “avoidable” but unless China prevails in getting Korea to stop working on the development of nuclear missiles they have not revealed another plan. According to intelligence, Korea has not succeeded in forming a missile capable of hitting anything closer than the west coast and to our knowledge it has not been properly tested. But they are capable of hitting Guam easily, so who knows what lies in our future.

Homeschool Journal 8/16/17 Day 3, Whoopie!

Wow! Three days of school already, it is going fast!!! I like making up puns for the number of days we’ve done of school. We went on a field trip to the orthodontist so that Reed could get a wire cut.

LA was easy today. I am writing a essay tomorrow, on the first week! I am probably going to do a lot of fun stuff this year! I actually get to read a bit more than a teeny bit this year for reading, yay! But it does mean that it takes a ton longer to do my reading.

Did you know that the Bible is actually for Christians, not non-christians? It is to tell us how to live, but it is also good for non-christians to learn about Christianity. The word Bible comes from the word “biblo” which means “book,” that really fits because the Bible is The book. The Bible was written in three different countries, with over 40 people writing in it!!!!! Now that is an awe-inspiring book!!!!! We are amazed by Jesus’ miracles but what we should really be inspired by is that He led a completely sinless life, because though He was still God, He was also completely human at the same time, so He was tempted just as much as we are. I know you’re saying “He had an advantage” but no, He really didn’t, He was just as human as we are. I know it’s hard to wrap your head around that concept, but He really was.                                   “I am not afraid of the temptation, I am afraid of the fact that I am tempted to do it”                                                                        -Vella Karman

In history we learned about the Spanish settling in South America. They stole around 15,000 dollars worth of money in gold from the natives!!!!! And thye forced them to mine it for them!!! I don’t know about you, but I would of made a few complaints about that!

Homeschool Journal 8/15/17 Day way 2 little

Yay, second day!!! We read one of Shakespeare’s poems, it was a bit weird. I interveiwed myself for English, it was fun and sort of cool.

It is amazing how much the Bible has went through, people have tried to destroy it and it has prevailed, and it has also been quoted, made into songs, read, and translated into more languages than any other book. It would have died out by now if it wasn’t God’s Word. Even non-christians know The Lord’s Prayer, and admit that it is powerful. If you took any mention of the Bible and disputes about the Bible ect ect out of history you would take out half of the great leaders of this world and half of history itself. Isn’t it amazing how the Bible was written by different people, in different countries, in different languages and yet it still portrays the same concept? That shows that the Bible was actually written by God. Isn’t it also cool that the Bible is a book for anybody, with any job, at any age, in any country, and at any stage of life? The Bible is the only book like that.

In history we learned about the start of the “Holy Roman Empire” the first king was a christian!!! So it spread christianity!!!!! (Years later) Charles got 3 kingdoms when he was still a teenager! He was a greedy, liar and he gave half his kingdom to his son, and half to his brother, which is probably going to lead to a power struggle.

Homeschool Journal 8/14/17

Yes, yes it’s the first day of school again. Yay!!! 7th grade!!! I think 7th is better than 6th because I am not behind yet. In 7th grade you get a “school counselor,” so this morning I went and talked to her/mom about my schedule for this year. I personally think it is just a teeny bit crazy. This year I am going to have a yearbook which is going to be so much fun!!! It will be like a 7th grade scrapbook!!! We are making first day of school cupcakes in our school colors!!!

In English I started a notebook with all the things that I am learning about things like nouns, et cetera. So when I need to know something I can just look it up! LA was lots more work but a ton of fun today!

In history we read the introduction. Why do they even have one of those for a history book? But they did, and they started by telling us about the lay of the land. Also called where the 7 continents, and the oceans names. Where do they think we live, the bottom of the ocean? Outer space? They had some cool poems though. It is amazing how much the world has developed in the last 500 years!!!!! Just think about it, travel, medicine, governing, science, maps, electronics, why electronics wasn’t even a thing 500 years ago!!! We saw some really cool pictures of Anne Frank’s actual diary, the Hubble telescope, Henry Ford in a car, (I didn’t realize that Ford was somebody’s last name!) and a picture of JFK just minutes before he was shot. Current Events was sad with all the great things in the newspaper there are to write about.

In Bible we learned about bible junkies, the author, that God plants us in the right place, the Bible is a cleaning agent and God is the cleaning person, that you should document your insights, and that I might want to write a guide to God’s word. We read the Beatitudes. They said to go the extra mile in sharing too.

Put today on your calendar folks!!!!! In math I actually learned something, on the first day!!!!! I learned about Roman Numerals, I thought they stopped at X but they actually go on to do L,D, and M!!! I also wrote some of my answers with the cool tails!!!!!

journal 8/19/16

Today I am going to have a sleepover with one of my awesome friends!!!!! It is going to be a awesome day!!!!!! We are going to have cake because it is so yummy.

We read a book in science today named Cool stuff 2.0 and how it works. It was really cool, we learned how smoke alarms work!!! We only get to read it on Fridays though. Boo! but it’s still really cool!!!

Math is still super easy. I am acutuly getting tired of it. Math is so easy it’s boring! Espesally when I have to listen to a lecture.

Marie’s Free Food

Marie’s is having a officers eat lunch free event on Tuesdays. The customers are buying the lunches for them. After all the shootings people wanted to show that they appreciate police, and the police are coming by the dozens because they consider it a safe place to go and be sure that it is okay to eat and not have to worried about poison. It is a great event and it really honors the police officers, I hope it lasts a long time.

journal /8/18/16

We did a science experiment about cohesion today. It was very fun, we put a drop each of water, soapy water, canola oil, and rubbing alcohol. Then we compared how tall they were, they were the tallest in this order water, canola oil, rubbing alcohol, and last of all soapy water.

I wrote a whole paragraph about being a gold nugget  in gold rush territory from the rough draft I made yesterday. It was fun but took a while. I ended up as a gold leaf on the queens neckless. My whole family lives on the neckless with me, and we are a very close family.
