Homeschool Journals 12/11-12/15/17

12/11/17

In Bible we read about Pentacost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples. I forgot what Pentacost was and I was going to ask mom what it was to see if there was a hidden meaning behind the Holy Spirit coming then. But when she told me I laughed so hard at myself. Ohh well, it was a good thought, it just didn’t turn out too well.

We read a poem by Edwaard Lear. He was one of the youngest of 21 children!!! He was lonely as an adult. Probably because he was used to so many siblings! His poems are lonely too.

12/12/17

We read about Sual becoming Paul in Bible. He barely escaped from people who tried to kill him several times. I am glad that God can change people so much, or else a lot of people wouldn’t be saved! I didn’t realize that Paul stayed about two years in the place where he got back his sight before they persacuted him, that explains how he had people to help him get out in a basket so soon!

We learned more about Napoleon in History. Today he won all of Austria’s land in Italy. I personally do not remember that Austria had any land in Italy. They probably won it in another war. We read about Waterloo too, the Battle of Waterloo is very famous.

12/13/17

Today we started watching our neighbor’s chickens. She has four hens and she asked us to watch them until Sunday. We get to keep the eggs that they lay during that time. I like the chickens, I am slightly afraid of them, but then again when I first met our cat, Lava I was afraid of him too. (And he is a ‘fraidy-cat)

12/14/17

In history we learned about South America becoming free. And then getting recaptured by the Spanish. And then getting it’s freedom. There are no more ups and downs, sorry. We learned about Simon Bolivar, he is who they named Bolivia after. They are spelled very differently, nevermind, that doesn’t matter very much. Bolivar wanted South America to be run like the US. Although he accomplished much in his lifetime, sadly, his dream was never a reality.

12/15/17

Today we stopped early to go to a thing at about 4:30. We fed the chickens today. They are loud. I am sad that we only have two days left. I hurt my back on Wednesday. It still hurts today. I didn’t get very much school done.

Homeschool Journal 1/8/17

Today was a long day. I did two spellings. (Which took almost an hour) I did a math lesson. (Which took longer than an hour) I found that two of my school books were in Reed’s locker. (I can read again now!) I also learned more about the outbreak of blue death in London. (Our read aloud) I did a lot of Bible memory, and heard more about climbing in Sweden. I also read a lot about weird and cool machines. Including a boat that is supposed to sink, (it is for studying purposes) a taxi that has no driver (it runs about 20 ft. above pedestrian level) and a plane where you have to work to stay conscious.

“Frrreezing?” “Not Us Bugs!”

According to bug experts, bugs will be moving into your home to escape the cold weather. So seal all those doors and windows if you don’t want to share your home for the winter. They say that they can also be castaways on furniture, groceries and so on. So you might want to shake out blankets and other things from the garage before you bring them inside. Termites however can not be prevented by closing windows and doors, so you should really have an expert check your house for them so your walls don’t crumble next time you go to paint. Waiting too long makes it harder for the exterminators to deal with it. Because of weather predictions we are expecting more mosquitoes. Lots of excess rainwater plus a warm winter means more baby mosquitoes are born later. Experts are expecting more bugs in houses overall this winter because of the amount of rain, which displaces many bugs looking to stake out the cold underground. So keep an eye out for bugs, they might be staying in your warm house!

Homeschool and Sick Journals 11/13-11/17/17

This week I was sick. It was not fun, I had a cold, a cough, a fever for some of it, and I missed most of parent observation week at ballet. I did some school though.

I think it must have been hard for Jesus to hang out with Judah all that time. He knew that Judah was going to betray Him, and that He was going to suffer from it. It must have been even harder the days before when He knew Judah was thinking about it, and when He made Judah a disciple. I mean, if I knew the future I might not have told Judah where I was going that night, I personally might have sent him on a loooooong errand that night until I was safe in hiding. Luckily, Jesus is not like me.

Homeschool Journal 10/30/17

We are back again. Already! It seems like the weekend only lasts 5 hours. And I did three math lessons this weekend. Oh well-they do say time flies when your having fun… (And not expecting/looking forward to something.)

In English I learned about different types of pronouns. Then I found and named the type of pronoun in a paragraph, explained why it was that type, and wrote a sentence using each type of pronoun. Then I added prefixes to words to make them a different type of word. I changed verbs into nouns, nouns into adjectives, and adjectives into nouns. I had to do two spelling days today.

Homeschool Journal 10/23/17

Today we started at nine. We read online that for Middle School and High School it is best to start at nine or later so that they get enough sleep. So I don’t start school until nine, and I am supposed to finish at three. If that could only actually happen that would be great!

In Bible we read about Nathaniel saying no good thing comes out of Nazareth. I wonder what it was about Nazareth. Did something bad happen there? Or is there some other thing we don’t know about. Then, right after he says that and goes to meet Jesus, Jesus sees him coming and says that he is a good Jew and has no gile. Gile means unrighteousness. (I asked.) I don’t get what that is all about.

Homeschool Journal 10/2/17

Today I had a sore throat. So did mom. Reed was just sick and had a gum-doctor appointment. Reed read our Bible and History. I did math and it took forever.

In history we learned about John Lock, Issac Newton, and Galileo. They are famous and in history books now, but they were rejected in their time. Their ideas were rejected then too. It was sooo unfair! Poor them.

Homeschool Journal 9/25/17

Today we are going to go shopping at one. So I am doing my school early. I didn’t start early I just worked really hard to get it done. So yes, it is before lunch fight now. Adi went over to a friends for a playdate and she will be gone until lunch. Yesterday I had my first Nutcracker rehearsal!!! And yes, I am aware that it is still September. We start early. It was a to of fun, I already knew my “sister” in my “family.” It is so cool and awesome, I am going to have so much fun!!!

Math was ok. My lesson was titled “Quilts.” Seriously, yesterday I learned about eating right. They start by telling me about the subject, and then they turn it into math. I had to figure out how many inches of thread they would need for a quilt, how many squares were on the sides… So it was still math, but the lessons weren’t as boring.

Homeschool Journal 9/15/17

Today we are doing a Mondays work on a  Fridays schedule. I know that seems confusing, and trust me it is. (I keep on thinking it is an actual Monday and then I think well it was Friday yesterday and yesterday I was thinking that if we could skip work that day we could be on the right day then… Today is a Friday!) It is getting me all mixed up! We went on a field trip and saw dad at lunch and then went to the store.

Today I started a brand new reader. It is called homesick and it is the Fictionalized story of Jean Fritz, written, by Jean Fritz, and fictionalized, by Danny Gofer… Just kidding, it was fictionalized by Jean Fritz too. I don’t think I quite like it. It is not… Well… Something that I would read otherwise… Like… It would be a book that I pick up at the library and less than halfway through realize that, as a Christian I shouldn’t read this. Seriously, I am sort of concerned.

Homeschool Journal 9/6/17

In Bible we read about the less commonly told story of Jesus feeding a crowd. They had seven loafs of bread and picked up seven baskets after they fed the 400. The 400 hadn’t eaten for almost 3 days!!! That is one long sermon! We read about what to look for when you are doing different studies of the Bible so that you can get the most out of it.

Persia was conquered many times. It is amazing how many words we have for conquer, overthrown, invade, defeat, beat, vanquish, overcome, trounce, ect ect ect… It happens so much we need to have a million definitions for it that I haven’t even heard of half of them. It would be so hard to be a king or queen and not know who of your family is going to be treacherous and who you can trust, finding out you made the wrong decision later and regretting it or making the right one and feeling so betrayed. I am so glad I am not a queen!!!
