Homeschool Journal 8/21/17

Today is the eclipse!!! Yay! We are going outside to see it when it happens! It is going to be so much fun! I know, you might be thinking why is she writing going to? That is because it is only 11:22 AM, (I finished school early.) We are also renting out the house today! So it is an exciting day, actually it is going to be an exciting week, Adi’s birthday, Adi’s first day of gymnastics, Reed’s doctor appointment, ect… We are taking Thursday, (Adi’s birthday) off from school, so I am going to be doing extra school to make it up throughout the week.

I am going to write another essay this week about the definition of courage. I think I might be writing an essay every week from now on!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love writing essays, but an essay a week sounds intimidating when you are used to one or two a semester!

We over-viewed the layout of the bible today. Did you ever notice that in Matthew it says peter cursed and swore when he was denying Christ? So no only he denied Him, he also lied, and swore!

Did you know that the King James Bible was named after the king who ordered it to be made? He ordered a Bible to be made so that Protestants, Purists, and Catholics would all have the same Bible. History is sad, there is too much killing and wars for me.

Homeschool Journal 8/18/17

On Fridays I will work ahead because we try to finish before lunch on Fridays. We do not have an extra Bible book on Friday. In the real Bible that we did do we read about Palm Sunday. Vella will start Vocabulary Vine next week which is about Latin and Greek and she is mad at me for reminding Mom of it. We did A Murder For Her Majesty during History and Bible today. It is 11:30 a.m. now. In Algebra 1 I only did what was left of my lesson and worked ahead which is good because Mom did not remember to put Alone Bible into the Friday schedule. So I did it during History and together Bible. I had a Science experiment today involving converting Ancient Hebrew measurements. I only had one chapter in The King’s Fifth. We will be meeting some friends this afternoon and probably most Fridays. Two day ago we got bottles to use a science experiment piece we bought with Adi. I have finished everything today except this. Yesterday I finished The Nixie’s Song and started In Too Deep. The Nixie’s Song is the first in the Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles a sequel series to The Spiderwick ChroniclesIn Too Deep is Book Six in The 39 Clues. I have not read anything today. I will eat lunch, finish cleaning the kids’ bathroom and clean my room after writing this. We only had one History book today along with only the Bible in Bible. I am trying to make all my Journals at least 250 words.

New Books By Vella Karman

Don’t you just love new books? The smell, the feel, a story just waiting to be read, whatever your favorite part, (though I hope its not the taste) new books are a favorite among young and old.

Lucy was walking down Main St. for the first time when she saw it, a bookstore! Since Mum had said she could explore, that meant she could go in, right? Looking towards where she had seen Mum and Tracy last, she scanned the crowds. Finding them in the bustle, she caught Mum’s eye. As Mum winked and pointed at the bookstore, Lucy grinned. She nodded, Mum knew her so well! Lucy opened the door and stepped into one of the magical places it seemed God had made just for people like her. She was greeted by the familiar smell of new books, shiny new covers covered the walls, at least a thousand of them, just waiting to be read! She picked up the nearest one and stuck her nose inside. Such fresh, fine, soft pages she thought, fingering a few. She admired the book, a copy of “To Kill a Mockingbird” nice and new, with a beautiful, smooth cover.

I believe that everybody should get the feel the sensation of walking into a bookstore, and hearing all the books almost calling your name, “Read me!” “No, read me first!” “Me, me, me!” So if you still can’t smell that brand-new book smell, keep on sniffing!

Homeschool Journal 8/18/17 Day 5 busy as a bee hive

Last day already! I have officially finished my first week of school!!! Yay! Today is our half day of school so it is only 10:06! I think that 7th is going to be a great year! I have already learned something is almost every subject! I have also started some extra credit! I am doing a unit study and possibly an study of how long it takes to mail something in the US.

I would not want to have been a queen in history, they can’t trust their family and won’t help their family because of the possibility of treason, they are fearing for their lives all the time, and often get held captive/something horrible happens to them. I think there might be a little bit of tension between the Catholics and the Protestants.

US AND NORTH KOREA STILL STANDING OFF, CHINA WARNS BOTH

Chinese president Xi Jinping has pushed US president Donald Trump to withhold from threatening North Korea after threats have flown back and forth between the US and North Korea for a week. Xi urged North Korea to do similarly. Afterwords North Korea claimed that millions of their citizens “are keen to fight”. And still threatens an “enveloping strike” on the US territory of Guam. China claims they will stay neutral of North Korea strikes first but will join them if the United States or it’s allies deal the first blow.

PROTESTS OVER REMOVAL OF GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE STATUE

On Saturday August 12 protesters gathered at former Lee Park in Charlottesville, Virginia to protest the removal of a statue of the Emancipation Park’s former namesake, General Robert E. Lee of the American Civil War, on his horse. When counter-protesters advanced on the area fights broke out between the groups. The police then arrived and dispersed the original protesters while the counter-protesters started braking up. Then a car driven by a man later identified as Alex Fields Jr. rammed into a group of them apparently purposefully. Killing one, putting 19 in the hospital and injuring 16 more. The day was the most dramatic stroke in the year and a half of debate in the town over the statue.

Homeschool Journal 8/17/17

In Bible we started “But Don’t all Religions Lead to God?” In the actual Bible John the Baptist got beheaded, Jesus fed 5,000 people at once and Jesus and Peter walked on water in a storm. In history we learned about the Dutch Rebellion. We read another poem by Shakespeare. I did not quite finish a whole lesson of Algebra 1 but was only required to do two questions because of yesterday anyway. What I did do was about equation systems. The whole chapter I am in will be. I have not finished my Current Events, LA assignment or Wordly Wise yet. After writing this I will do that. Yesterday I finished The Big Book of Spy Stuff, ESP, Area 51 and Ancient Astronauts. Today I started The Nixie’s Song. My reader, The King’s Fifth, is a Newberry Honor Book. In reference to two day ago a Pokemon Card Game deck is made from three types of cards, Pokemon, energies and trainers. Pokemon are the cards that you battle with your opponents Pokemon. Energies help the Pokemon attack and trainers do things like healing Pokemon or looking through the cards that you don’t have access to yet in the game and finding something to take from them. There are different types of Pokemon and their attacks usually require the Pokemon to have been given the same type of energy earlier in the game. A lot of attacks require the Pokemon to have been given multiple energies earlier in the game. Usually not all of them have to be the same type as the Pokemon but some can be any type of energy.

Homeschool Journal 8/17/17 Day 4 more to go

Some of you may ask “what are there four more of?” and “did I miss something?” The answer to these questions, in no particular order are “No, and there are four more years until I will be starting my last year of school.”

In English I wrote my first (most likely of many) essays. They gave me more direction on what they wanted, and how they wanted it to be done.

In math, they taught me how to add. Seriously this is seventh grade math, people. Well that’s that for math.

We started a new book titled, “But Don’t All Religions Lead to God?” The simple answer to this question is “No!!!!!!!!!!” And that is just what the book said. We also had an interesting discussion due to this book about Protestant v.s. some Catholic thing.

Did you know the Dutch have had only one dynasty!!! That’s a first! The dikes are in the Netherlands, Netherland means “far-away,” so people think that the Netherlands were far away when they named it! Did you know that tulips used to cost about as much as a large house!!!!!

BOOM! -Ottis Amber (Week 1 Day 3, Whoopie!)

“Boom, boom boom!” You’ll be hearing this noise soon if Trump’s “tough talk” continues. Officials say that conflict is “avoidable” but unless China prevails in getting Korea to stop working on the development of nuclear missiles they have not revealed another plan. According to intelligence, Korea has not succeeded in forming a missile capable of hitting anything closer than the west coast and to our knowledge it has not been properly tested. But they are capable of hitting Guam easily, so who knows what lies in our future.
