We are getting an exchange student! I am incredibly excited!! We learned a month or so ago, and David comes to live with us Aug. 9th. (Tomorrow!) Here is what I thought at first.

I’m too excited to think!

David gets here tomorrow, his dad will also stay with us for a month, then return to China. David is 15, turning 16 in December. He likes science and math, and he will go to school at the Private Christian School our church meets at.

David was supposed to get here more than six hours ago, and we haven’t heard from them. We heard that a flight from China to LA was delayed eleven hours, (eleven hours, WOW!) but we don’t know if they were going on that plane then transfering.

They called, they were tired so they got a hotel room and slept. They will get here sometime tonight.

David has been here 11 days, and it’s awesome! He’s been doing school since last Thursday, but it has been uneventful. He was supposed to have a tennis tournament today, but he didn’t want to miss English.

On Sunday a 6.9 earthquake hit the island of Lombok, Indonesia, killing 91 people. Indonesia suffers many earthquakes, including a different one in the Lombok Area last week. Many houses crumbled, falling houses and buildings being the main cause of deaths. Both earthquakes struck at 6:46 Western Indonesian time. They are currently clearing rubble.

I am done with school! Hence the title, so I am pretty much done with journals until next year. I know you’ll be so sad to be free. It can’t be helped. (Just kidding, enjoy your vacations!) Mark your calander folks, July 30th is my first day of school. Whoo Hoo! 

7/30/18

I finished math in half an hour and got an A+. It was easy. History was interesting. I learned about Ancient Messopotamia.

Science was so fun I accidentally read ahead. The questions were a little harder than I thought. But it was ok.

The book I’m reading The Thief was amazing. The writing was so good I literally had a hard time putting it down. I learned about femanine, mascular, neuter, and indefinate nouns in English. It was easy but interesting.

7/31/18

I finished before lunch. Partly because I read ahead in Science and The Thief. In math I missed a few questions I knew. In science I learned about industrial robots. They are really useful for factories. But they put people out of jobs.

In English I started working on a fantasy story. So I’m going to write a historical fiction sci-fi. It’s going to be awsome. I started telling Dad about it at lunch and he got excited. All I did today was pre-writing but they made it fun with an educational graph. I was so inspired that I sat down that night and used their pre-writng tecnique to write my own six-page story that I’m going to be posting the the blog in chunks. One a week. So look for I Understand Part II.

I like the look of todays date. It’s so even, it almost follows the golden rule of algebra. School was harder today. Adi and I started playing agame, and it was three before I remembered about school. I still finished, but it was bout diner-time. Today MOm, who has been in NV, got back! That was fun. We also got our first newspaper today.

In history I came up with a question. “Why aren’t stars star-shaped?” They don’t even look star-shaped! Comment if you know the answer.

Today I wrote some more of my Historical Fiction Sci-Fi, but I didn’t ahvve enough time to finish it! I’m gonna have a lot of homework.

Today I had my first science experiment. It was so awesome! I am doing a crash-course on Robotics. Today I made my own Vibrobot. A Vibrobot is mostly used as a toy, it is not technically a robot, because it doesn’t have the second ability in the definition of a robot. A Vibrobot is basically a moto, it just vibrates, moving around with no controls. If it hits a wall, it just bounces off. My Vibrobot had markers for legs, which means it drew pictures! I will try to include a photo below.

Today I didn’t have much school because it is a Friday. But I did work on our newspaper. It’s called the Weekly Tribune, and it comes out every Saturday. It has the articles I post on here plus extras! Like riddles, crosswords, weather, and super cool font!

I did math later than usual because Reed was using the computer. But I got an A+ and learned about Communitive Properties. Which is a fancy way of saying, I got to hear a lecture on something I learned in second grade. Well, that unlocks one of the secrets of Algebra. What’s next? Long division? (I’m not upset, just amused.) Algebra is actually really easy so far.

A seven year-old in New Zealand has her own ideas of women’s lib. Zoe Carew was visiting her grandparents, who live close to Wellington, New Zealand. As her dad drove by a road-work sign, saying “LINEMEN,” Zoe was offended. Zoe wrote the country’s transportation agency a complaint letter, convincing them to change the signs. Signs now read “LINE CREW.”

Recently 2,500 kids crossing the border were separated from their parents to “lay down the line” on illegal border crossings. After much discussion, the policy was repealed. Workers at a Texas center, currently housing 32 of the children started working tirlessly to reunite them with their parents. The work of these and many others has placed 1,800 of the children back with their parents. More than 450 of the children’s parents had already been deported, causing setbacks. The search is still on to find the missing parents.

Ann lay on her bd, not wanting to get up just yet. It’s only seven, I have time. Once, she had always gotten up as soon as she was awake. When she was seven. She sprang out of bed each morning, ready for the day. But now she’s fourteen, and things had changed. She still loved mornings, but they weren’t as bright as they had once seemed. Ann went back to that time in her head, she could feel the course dress slipping over her head, her face still dripping from her wash.                                                                                                                            “Ann, the water won’t fetch itself.” Mother yelled up the ladder to the loft Ann called home. Ann swung down the ladder landing with a thump on the waxed wooden floor, Mother’s prized accomplishment. She grabbed the pail and ran outside, the door slamming behind her. She went around the house to the pump, swinging the pail as she sang. He brother, Andrew, emerged from the barn carrying a pail of milk in each hand. Andrew was ten, and her best friend. “Hi Birdie.” Andrew croaked. He called her Birdie because she liked the mornings, while he did not. His morning chores were always done half asleep.                                                      “Good morning!” I chirped back. That was the last morning he called me Birdie.                  “Ann, time to get up!” Mother pronounced.                                                                          “Coming!” I struggle to sit up, swinging my useless legs over the side of the bed. I grab the crutches leaned against the wall, and with a deep breath, push myself upright.

John glanced at Charles. What was he thinking? An hour ago John would’ve thought something snarky, but now? He had been working on his latest project, using his slingshot to hit Barry, a bully, on the back of the head with a twig. He didn’t want to hurt Barry, but if he did he could tell his mom what she didn’t know, what Barry had been doing to him. But it hadn’t worked, he had gotten in trouble for the way he had “handled it.” Now his mom had her hands on Charles’ shoulders, but he didn’t mind as much. He Barry, and Charles had been stuck in the class room while their Teacher and the Princable talked about what to do with them.

“Why’d you do it?” Asked Charles.

“‘Cause, they like you better.” I looked at the desk.

“Because I’m so good?”

“Guess so.”

“I’m only pretending ’cause I want Mom to like me.” I glanced at him. He was looking at me.

“Me too.” Piped in Barry. We both looked at him in surprise. “It’s the only time my Dad pays attention to me.” He admitted. “Sorry.” He said, studying his beat up black Nikes.

 John didn’t know what to think. But they still hadn’t solved their problems. Now he stood next to his teacher and princable, taking a family picture. Oh well, at least he had friends.

Hey! Today was okay. I finished early, and Mom went to the Chiropractor again, but she is getting better. We went to the library and I got books on moviemaking. Seriously, I know so much about moviemaking you’d think I’d have made a millon, when in truth I haven’t even made one. For example, have you heard of cold readings, the 180 degree rule, table readings, or written your own script before? I’m guessing you can’t answer yes to all of those questions, so therefore I am knowlagable.

Math took a loooooooong time. I have a new archnemisis, pi. I don’t like pi. I mean, I don’t even like pumpkin pie. I know, crazy right? But it is true, so having to do math named after it is just sad. ;(
