Homeschool Journals 11/6-11/9/17

We are taking a semester break to catch up. It is going to be awesome! I am very excited, if I finish my school I can even have Friday off! So, we have hit the semester point, how exciting! I can’t wait until the holidays too!

11/6/16

I did a math lesson. I practiced factoring and canceling. It is pretty fun. I finished at three when I was supposed to for once. All in all it is going to be a very good day. I divided up all I need to do into four days, and I am about to go clean my room and do my chores. I will probably read a book, and open my library. I am working on the catalog. I just learned that you are not supposed to add a ue to catalog when you are using it in the library kind. Interesting, but sad. I like catalogue personally, but it is underlined in red, even though it is a valid word, just not used in the U.S. as much.

11/7-11/10/17

The rest of this week did not go so well. I have not finished week eight or nine yet. It is mostly hard things left. It is going a lot slower and I got sick on Friday. (I was sick for a week after and I still have the cough.) I had a lot of fun at the bonfire worship night for youth group. I went with some of our neigbors that have kids and go to our church, N and her mom plus L and L down the street. It was incredible. It was at the Hi’s, and we played tag on the lawn.

This week I finished my alone reader about Japanese ports opening up. It was historical fiction. I liked it a lot. I can’t wait to start my next reader! I wonder if it will be historical fiction too, it’s my favorite genre.

We have hit the semester mark. Yay! I am a quarter of the way done with school for the year! Wow, if only the rest of the year would go this fast I would be done with the school year in no time! It is almost holiday time too, so much to look forward to.

During electives this week I finished an online course I was taking on how to make your headlines better. It was a very in-depth course and it even covered search engines and key words. It has majorly improved my headlines and I found the course interesting as well. For an example of my newly acquired skills see “Row Row Row your Boat… Democracy Down the Stream” an article I wrote about the possible new trend of diplomats row boating with each other while on business.

Book: Mr. Lemoncello’s Great Library Race by Chris Grabenstein

Reveiw

I think that Mr. Lemoncello’s Great Library Race is another amazing book by Chris Grabenstein. I plan on adding this to my personal shelves right next to the rest of the series. It is a three book series starting with Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library followed by Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olimpics and now making it a terrific trio, Mr. Lemoncello’s Great Library Race! I hope a fourth one is coming soon! Mr. Lemoncello’s Great Library Race is about a third challenge for the team, this time all the players are coming from the board of trustees, and there may be a problem from the past to fix! As mysteries arise from the past about Mr. Lemoncello’s start as a gamemaker it may turn out that Mr. Lemoncello didn’t play fair. It is up to Kyle and friends to find the truth lurking behind the surface. But what they know may ruin Mr. Lemoncello, forever!

In Bible Jesus talked about wealth. In History we learned about the Agricultural Revolution and the Age of Enlightenment. In poems we read The Song of the Shirt by Thomas Hood. It was about a woman mending a shirt.

We are back again. Already! It seems like the weekend only lasts 5 hours. And I did three math lessons this weekend. Oh well-they do say time flies when your having fun… (And not expecting/looking forward to something.)

In English I learned about different types of pronouns. Then I found and named the type of pronoun in a paragraph, explained why it was that type, and wrote a sentence using each type of pronoun. Then I added prefixes to words to make them a different type of word. I changed verbs into nouns, nouns into adjectives, and adjectives into nouns. I had to do two spelling days today.

Today we started at nine. We read online that for Middle School and High School it is best to start at nine or later so that they get enough sleep. So I don’t start school until nine, and I am supposed to finish at three. If that could only actually happen that would be great!

In Bible we read about Nathaniel saying no good thing comes out of Nazareth. I wonder what it was about Nazareth. Did something bad happen there? Or is there some other thing we don’t know about. Then, right after he says that and goes to meet Jesus, Jesus sees him coming and says that he is a good Jew and has no gile. Gile means unrighteousness. (I asked.) I don’t get what that is all about.

Today I am going to have my twin come over for a sleepover. Due to being safe I am not going to use her real name, and because of the fact that we are almost twins and we have similar names I am going to just call her my twin. She is going to come over for a sleepover tonight and I am so excited!!! Mom told me about it just yesterday. She is coming over because one of her siblings has an activity tomorrow and we are going to have a ton of fun. I can’t wait!

I history we learned about croissants. There was a siege on a French city and they were digging tunnels under the city. Everybody was told to listen and warn people if they made it into the city. Two bakers were making bread in the morning and one of them heard them. He yelled and some soldiers came and fought them in the tunnels. They ended up winning the war. It is said that the bakers made croissants to celebrate that day.

Today a private school friend of mine came and did school with us for a while. She said she wished she could be homeschooled the day before, after she had told us she didn’t have to go to school today and tomorrow because of parent teacher conferences. That was the beginnings of a brilliant idea. I invited her to do school with us today, and she still liked the idea of homeschooling at the end. (Lots of people get wrong ideas of homeschooling-many think I don’t do school at all and play all day.) It was fun. It is a lot better doing school if you are doing it with friends.

I wrote a pretend newspaper article about something in one of my books that I had to read. I will type it up and put it here.
